Rock Steady Adventure aims to provide a challenging residential experience that encourages young people to develop new skills, confidence, self-reliance and explore the benefits of effective group working.

The residential will be hard work for all participants and accompanying adults, and will include hill walking during the day and night, in mountainous terrain.

Rock Steady Adventure suggests that the programme be based in Ennerdale, in the Lake District National Park, with accommodation being a combination of camping, and Youth Hostel.

Additional activities, such as Story Telling and Bushcraft will be incorporated into the programme to ensure that the young people are given the opportunity to explore a wide range of activities and learning opportunities.

Black Sail YHA, Ennerdale

Black Sail is a legend, famous for being a remote and isolated shepherd's bothy at the head of Ennerdale. This location provides great access to the surrounding fells: Great Gable, Pillar, Red Pike, Steeple and Haycock Ridge, to name a few. On the Coast to Coast walking route this is a renowned location for enjoying the mountains of the Lake District.

The Youth Hostel provides cosy, basic facilities and limited electric supply. A telephone is available for emergency use only. There are two adjacent kitchen areas. Solid fuel stove in lounge/dining room and background heating in rest of the Youth Hostel. YHA staff are resident at Ennerdale Youth Hostel. No cars are allowed at the hostel, so it it a truely adventurous experience!  Vehicles must be left at Ennerdale, 3½ miles away.
