This hostel started life as Smedley’s Memorial Hydropathic Hospital, serving as a place of rest and rehabilitation for the needy. It still offers a welcome retreat though nowadays it’s mainly from the many activities on offer close by. The Heights of Abraham, the Lead Mining Museum, Alton Towers and the American Adventure Theme Park are all nearby, as is excellent walking in the Peak District National Park. Children will be made very welcome, with toddler-friendly facilities and a menu for under-10s.
