The use of adventure activities within
training programmes provides unique situations where the processes
involved in effective teamwork can be explored effectively in a
restricted time period. The scenarios designed by Rock Steady Adventure
enable individuals to experience the pressures of time and resource
management, information gathering and problem solving in an unfamiliar
setting, where no roles are prescribed. We are able to monitor the
behaviour of individuals and teams and the processes involved.
Rock Steady Adventure designs and delivers programmes which present
a challenge to any group. Only through the use of effective teamworking
skills can the objectives be achieved. The group is presented with
an objective which can only be achieved through the successful completion
of interim tasks based around activities such as climbing, abseiling,
caving, kayaking/canoeing, raft/coracle building, gorge scrambling,
sailing, Tyrolean traverse, archery and initiative exercises. Unfamiliar
resources, pressures of time and quality, communication issues,
motivation, information gathering and processing and decision making
can all be recreated in the outdoors, where the learning is monitored
and outcomes reviewed. Valuable skills are obtained and carried
with the participants throughout the task, and back into your organisation.
Focus on Review
Since information is the key to successful skill acquisition effective
debriefs form a major part of any programme. After each exercise,
delegates have the opportunity to discuss their thoughts and experiences
in a constructive and non-threatening environment, discussing the
consequences of their decisions and the value of effective skills
and productive methods for personal development. The outcomes of
the reviews are then related back to the workplace.
