Rock Climbing Rock climbing offers you the opportunity to set your own goals, and meet them. Our taster days begin with a warm-up, some bouldering and a series of rock climbing routes of various grades, ensuring that you are given a challenge appropriate to your ability. Safety is provided in the form of a top rope system, and our qualified instructors will coach you in climbing techniques as well as safety on the crag. Multi-Pitch Climbing Multi-Pitch Climbing opens up the world of mountaineering. Once you can lead, or have climbed to a reasonable standard on rock, the next progression is multi-pitch routes. An MIA will lead you up some of the finest crags in the UK, explaining the process as you go. Rock Adventure A session of climbing through, under, over and round the rock features of a crag environment. A great activity for support and encouragement, appeals to a wide variety of ability levels. All participants engaged for the full session. Real exploration. Ideal for groups wishing to explore the crag environment, either as an introduction to, or preparation for rock climbing. Abseiling To abseil, from the German abseilen, ‘seil’ being German for rope, is to descend via a rope, usually from a mountain route. The popularity of abseiling as an activity in its own right has increased over the years as outdoor centres and their clients have been looking for more adventurous activities. Anyone, with the right instruction and safety equipment can abseil, but not everyone had the mental will to lean back on that rope. Abseiling is often a personal challenge. Rock Steady Adventure offers abseiling from some venues, but to ensure that it is included in a Rock Climbing event, please ask for it specifically. For the majority of our programmes, we prefer to offer abseiling as a means of getting somewhere, either back down a crag once you have climbed it, or into a gorge to begin a gorge adventure. Standard rock climbing days, for example at Brimham Rocks, would only include abseiling if you request it specifically; as there is so much rock to climb we can easily fill your day with rock climbing.
